2nd September 2026 – (Hong Kong) A 72‑year‑old man serving a sentence at Stanley Prison died in a public hospital this morning after his health deteriorated during treatment for prostate cancer. The inmate had been receiving ongoing medical care with regular follow‑ups at the institution hospital and at a public facility.
He was transferred to hospital on 26th August after reporting physical discomfort. Despite medical intervention, his condition worsened while under inpatient care, and he was certified dead at 6.50am today.
The incident has been reported to Police. The Coroner’s Court will conduct a death inquest. The inmate had been imprisoned following a conviction for rape in 2022.
