2nd September 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Moroccan-inspired restaurant Subtle Island, situated on the fourth floor of the Yue Sing Commercial Centre in Sai Yeung Choi South Street, Mong Kok, has announced it will continue trading after reaching a short term lease agreement with its landlord. The restaurant had previously stated it would cease operations on 31st August due to the expiry of its lease and sustained financial difficulties. However, following strong support and encouragement from regular customers and friends, the management pursued further negotiations and secured an arrangement allowing extended operations.
Subtle Island, which has been in business for five years, recently received its pet-friendly restaurant licence, aligning with its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for patrons and their pets. The owners have expressed appreciation for the overwhelming response they received from the community at a time when they were planning to widen their hospitality offerings.
Looking ahead, the management intends to evaluate its business under current regulations while actively gathering feedback from customers. There are plans to make progressive changes, focusing on the quality of food, standard of service and improvement of the dining environment. The team at Subtle Island believes that the city’s new policies around pet-friendly restaurants mark a new chapter in local dining, and, with an effective framework and continued community backing, they are optimistic about new opportunities in the hospitality sector.
The restaurant features artificial sand, a small pool and an outdoor seating area, and frequently hosts live music performances. Subtle Island’s menu is centred on Western cuisine, including dishes such as seafood risotto, sea urchin cream fettuccine, soft shell crab pasta with salted egg yolk cream, and classic tiramisu for dessert.
