28th August 2026 – (Tianjin) Japan and Thailand progressed to the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship after dispatching their quarterfinal opponents 3-0 on Thursday. Japan controlled proceedings against Chinese Taipei, racing to an early 11-4 lead in the first set and pulling clear with a six‑point burst on the serve of outside hitter Yukiko Wada before closing it out 25-14. Chinese Taipei responded in the second set to move 6-2 ahead, but Japan’s outside hitters turned the tide with an 8-1 run and secured the set 25-21. The third set was one‑way traffic as Japan wrapped up the match 25-13.
Japan’s block proved decisive, outscoring Chinese Taipei at the net by 11-1 and landing four aces to none. Three Japanese players reached double figures, with Wada finishing as top scorer on 19 points. Despite the defeat, Chinese Taipei middle blocker Yeh Yu‑Wen said competing against Asia’s elite had been invaluable experience, noting that Japan’s conditioning, mentality and tactical precision offered lessons her team will strive to emulate.
Thailand booked a last‑four meeting with Japan after beating South Korea 25-20, 25-18, 25-21. Opposite Pimpichaya Kokram led the way with 19 points, while outside hitters Sasipaporn Janthawisut and Chatchu‑On Moksri added 16 and 12 respectively. Thailand also held the edge from the service line with six aces to South Korea’s one. Japan’s Mayu Ishikawa said her side would study Thailand closely, highlighting the Thais’ rapid tempo and stressing the need for meticulous preparation.
