1st October 2026 – (Hong Kong) Police are investigating a suspected case of criminal damage after multiple nails were discovered on Tsing Yi North Coastal Road on 30th September. Shortly before 8.00pm, vehicles travelling towards Lantau Island reported tyre punctures near the section opposite the Environmental Protection Department’s portable exhaust measurement facility. Motorists alerted authorities and warned other drivers as they photographed the scene.
Officers said a report was received at 8.29pm stating that 16 nails had been found at the location. A total of 12 vehicles suffered burst tyres. No injuries were reported. The case has been classified as criminal damage and inquiries are under way.
The incident follows a similar report on 19th September at about 8.00pm, when several drivers travelling along Tolo Highway towards Sheung Shui, near the Tai Po South exit, suspected their tyres had been pierced by hard objects. Police attended, no one was hurt, and congestion was reported at the time.
