30th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Chinese Olympic champion Lian Junjie captured the men’s 10m platform title on Wednesday, clinching China’s 100th Asian Games diving gold and completing a sweep of all 10 events in Nagoya. Competing at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Lian amassed 501.25 points to finish 4.05 clear of Japan’s Rikuto Tamai, with China’s 15‑year‑old Zhao Renjie taking bronze on 427.50.

Lian established control with back‑to‑back 91.80‑point efforts on his fourth‑round reverse three‑and‑a‑half somersaults and fifth‑round back three‑and‑a‑half somersaults, holding firm despite Tamai’s 93.60‑point final dive. Lian said the victory, which delivered China’s tenth diving gold of these Games, was “hard‑earned” and especially meaningful given personal memories of watching the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from home after missing selection.

Zhao, making his Asian Games debut, opened with 86.40 and 91.80 before a sparkling 96.90 on his third dive that drew multiple perfect 10s. Two errors in rounds four and five, scoring 27.00 and 44.40, checked his momentum, but he recovered to secure bronze and later credited his coaches for helping him reset between dives. Tamai, the Paris Olympic silver medallist, said he felt relief with second place at home and described Zhao as a “strong rival” while focusing on competing with him as an equal.

Earlier, Olympic champion Chen Yiwen won the women’s 3m springboard with 358.05 points for China’s 99th diving gold at the Asian Games, ahead of teammate Chen Jia on 347.45 and Japan’s Sayaka Mikami on 332.35. The triumph delivered Chen her second title of the meet after partnering Chen Jia to win the women’s synchronised 3m springboard, though she admitted the path to double gold had included form fluctuations over the past two years.

Reflecting on China’s enduring dominance, Lian emphasised the foundations of rigorous training, mental resilience and the responsibility of passing experience to younger teammates.
