28th September 2026 – (Beijing) Novak Djokovic said he was thrilled to be back at the China Open for the first time since 2015, declaring that the passion of Chinese fans and the tournament’s enhanced facilities have sharpened his appetite for a seventh title at the ATP 500 event. The 24‑time Grand Slam winner, now 39, last competed in Beijing when he beat Rafael Nadal to seal a sixth championship, adding to victories in 2009, 2010 and from 2012 to 2015.
Reflecting on the 11‑year gap, Djokovic noted that his record in China gives him both comfort and conviction as he prepares for his opening match. He recalled memorable experiences at the venue, including competing during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and praised the complex’s significant improvements since his previous visit.
Djokovic emphasised that his return is driven by ambition as much as sentiment. While he said he always treasures the welcome from supporters in Beijing and across China, he stressed that he is in the draw to contend, not merely to enjoy the occasion. He added that his “NoleFam” in Beijing and Shanghai have been a constant source of motivation throughout his career.
