10th September 2026 – (Sao Paulo) Brazil’s Federal Police have formally launched an investigation into Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, over alleged money laundering and corruption in connection with former banker Daniel Vorcaro. The investigation, which was authorised in July, was revealed through documents released by the Supreme Federal Court. Daniel Vorcaro, previously the owner of the now-defunct Banco Master, is currently in custody as a key figure in what authorities describe as one of the country’s largest financial fraud cases.
Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro and a member of the Liberal Party, has admitted to a recording in which he sought the equivalent of 24 million US dollars from Vorcaro. The funds were reportedly intended for the creation of “Dark Horse”, a film portraying his father’s political life. Investigation documents indicate that at least 12.3 million dollars were transferred to the project. Federal Police are now examining both the origin and use of these funds, probing whether any of the monies may have been diverted for purposes unrelated to the film.
The inquiry has expanded to include Eduardo Bolsonaro, Flavio’s brother and a former federal deputy now residing in the United States. Authorities are investigating whether some of the funds raised for the film were used to cover his living expenses abroad. As part of the investigation, police have carried out searches across Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ceara, and Brasilia, including at properties linked to those involved in the film’s production.
In a related development, the Supreme Federal Court has opened a separate investigation to determine whether public funds may have been misused to finance the film project. Although Flavio Bolsonaro remains one of the leading contenders in the presidential race scheduled for 4th October, no formal criminal charges have been brought against him at this stage
