11th September 2026 – (New York) Billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper said he expects Bitcoin to surge to about $250,000 within the next two years, arguing that broader everyday use, expanding merchant acceptance and advances in artificial intelligence will make the cryptocurrency easier to adopt at scale. In an interview conducted on 10th September, he suggested a tipping point could arrive swiftly once retailers widely accept BTC, prompting consumers to shift savings from dollars into digital assets.
Draper urged households to hold enough Bitcoin to cover six months of expenses, advised companies to keep roughly four weeks of payroll in BTC and encouraged governments to add the asset to their treasuries. He said blockchain and smart contracts could streamline commerce by reducing reliance on traditional financial intermediaries, while AI tools will accelerate development of software that simplifies Bitcoin transactions. He downplayed quantum computing as an existential risk, contending that, over time, it would push the network toward even stronger security.
Commenting on regulation, Draper described the proposed CLARITY Act as a useful first step toward giving United States crypto innovators greater certainty, but said it falls short of his preferred framework centred on bitcoin and smart contracts. His ideal system would allow venture funds to raise capital in BTC, invest in BTC and enable portfolio companies to pay employees, suppliers and taxes in Bitcoin. He also criticised traditional finance interests for shaping crypto legislation to preserve existing requirements.
