Immigration diverts Halloween revellers to Shenzhen Bay due to new Huanggang Port gridlock

1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Halloween traffic alerts kept stacking through the night as Lan Kwai Fong filled early, Kai Tak’s main stadium hosted another concert draw, and the New Huanggang Port braced for a northbound exit rush — culminating in an Immigration Department call for travellers heading to the mainland to switch to Shenzhen Bay Port before 2.00am.

At about 1.30am, Immigration said outbound crowds at Huanggang were already very heavy and urged people leaving Hong Kong for Shenzhen to use Shenzhen Bay Port if they could still reach it by 2.00am. Half an hour earlier, police social posts warned that traffic toward Shenzhen at the new Huanggang crossing was building, with crowd and traffic controls in force and vehicles bound for the drop-off zone facing waits of about 15 to 30 minutes near the port.

The border squeeze capped a Central evening that turned tight well before midnight. By 7.40pm, police said the Lan Kwai Fong area was already extremely crowded and asked residents to consider celebrating Halloween elsewhere rather than push deeper into the party streets.

MTR followed with station tweaks to match police crowd measures. At 6.20pm, Central Station’s D1 exit was temporarily closed; by 7.44pm, both D1 and J1 were shut, with passengers told to use other ways in and out while orange-tape controls managed the street-level surge above.

Earlier in the afternoon, West Kowloon Cultural District reported every car park full and asked visitors to arrive by public transport. Island-side travellers were also pointed to the West Kowloon ferry from Central Pier No. 9 as an alternative to jammed roads and full lots.
