27th October 2026 – (New York) The cryptocurrency market extended losses into the evening of 26th October as traders pared risk ahead of the Federal Reserve’s 28th October interest‑rate decision. Bitcoin eased 0.28 per cent to $79,817.06, while Ethereum fell 0.58 per cent to $2,313.61 and Solana slipped 0.94 per cent to $100.30. The pullback followed a strong end to the third quarter in which several major tokens rebounded by double‑digit margins from summer troughs, prompting profit‑taking as investors reassessed policy and liquidity risks.

Exchange‑traded funds tied to digital assets mirrored the weaker tone. The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF declined 1.61 per cent, the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund fell 1.66 per cent, and the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF dropped 3.22 per cent. Market‑based probabilities suggest a low chance of a rate rise this week, but uncertainty over the Fed’s messaging is expected to keep price swings elevated. Analysts said near‑term stabilisation hinges on Bitcoin’s ability to hold the $80,000 area and on signs of renewed strength among leading altcoins; sustained slippage would indicate sellers remain in control.

Across the top tier by market value, BNB edged up 0.1 per cent to $741.88, XRP dipped 0.5 per cent to $1.29, and stablecoins Tether and USDC hovered close to their pegs. Elsewhere, Tron eased 0.2 per cent to $0.3299, while Zcash advanced 0.3 per cent to $1,222.90. With positioning lightening into the policy meeting, participants are preparing for elevated volatility through mid‑week and focusing on whether macro signals can re‑ignite risk appetite across the asset class.
