26th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) Somnia Lab announces, a lightweight AI companion robot prototype with 24‑DoF metal skeleton, motion‑captured pose library and temperature‑regulated synthetic skin, with pilot experiences planned in Hong Kong by year end and global shipments targeted for 2027.
The prototype stands about 1.75 metres tall and uses a lightweight architecture to keep the total mass near 20 kilograms. A metal internal skeleton provides 24 degrees of freedom across key joints, enabling a wide range of life‑like motions captured from human performers and curated into a library of 165 poses. Reinforcement learning and imitation algorithms are being applied to smooth transitions between movements and improve naturalness over time.
To emulate realistic touch and durability, the build employs 3D‑printed TPU muscle layers beneath a water‑based polyurethane outer skin that includes temperature regulation, addressing common oil‑seepage issues associated with traditional silicone finishes. The firm says a one‑hour charge supports approximately three hours of high‑intensity motion or around four hours of sustained postural support, depending on usage.
Founder Xara cited the scale of the global intimate products market, estimating it at roughly 70 billion US dollars, with the silicone doll segment contributing about 10 billion US dollars annually, and argued that improved ergonomics, mobility and tactile realism could expand adoption. The team maintains that prudent engineering choices—spanning materials, power management and safety systems—aim to enhance reliability while keeping maintenance needs low as the project progresses from prototype to production.
