12th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Three video clips circulated on 11th September show a man in a green top and white cap approaching an elderly woman inside a McDonald’s in a shopping mall, asking her to buy him chips. The woman backed away and raised her walking stick without touching him. The man, seemingly provoked, grabbed the stick, prompting the woman to cry out that she was being attacked. A staff member in a red shirt intervened and was immediately struck by an elbow, sparking a tussle. Another worker in black joined to assist, and all fell to the floor as bystanders moved in to help pin the man down while urging everyone to remain calm.
As he was restrained, the man’s hat and shoes came off and he repeatedly shouted for help and claimed he could not breathe. Those holding him explained they were not applying a choke and that he should be able to breathe, while others said police had already been called. Officers arrived shortly afterwards and placed the man in handcuffs.
The incident is understood to have taken place at McDonald’s, Shop S206, 2/F, T Town South, 30 Tin Wah Road, Tin Shui Wai. Responding to enquiries, police said that at 8.19pm on 11th September a 39‑year‑old man surnamed Tang allegedly disturbed a diner at the premises. When staff intervened, they were assaulted and reported the matter. Officers attended and began enquiries. The man, who was uninjured and conscious, was taken by ambulance to Tin Shui Wai Hospital for assessment. The diner and staff involved also reported no injuries. Police have classified the case as a discovery of a suspected mentally disordered person.
