23rd September 2026 – (Vancouver) Vinci Wong, the former chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, has publicly rejected allegations that heavy gambling led to his debts, saying his bankruptcy stemmed from failed investments and poor financial decisions. In a live stream addressing claims made by producer Stephen Shiu Jr, Wong said he had not visited casinos for roughly two decades and took issue with suggestions he was a habitual gambler. He added that he had sought to contact Shiu directly to clarify the matter.
Wong said the bankruptcy process had been lengthy and involved many parties, conceding that his own misjudgments played a part. He became visibly emotional when discussing the toll on family members after his sister publicly complained that the burden had fallen on relatives and described the liabilities as astronomical. He said the past could not be changed but vowed to work hard to repay as much as possible to creditors.
Detailing his current circumstances in Canada, Wong said that during his four‑year bankruptcy period he has hosted live broadcasts on TikTok and taken part‑time work delivering food for Uber Eats. He described handing orders to customers personally in the hope of earning higher tips and said his spending and travel were restricted, with income reported to the bankruptcy trustee. He pledged to keep earning and repaying what he could, adding that Canada offered room to try new forms of work.
