23rd September 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has extended the Mid‑Autumn Lantern Carnival 2026 at Victoria Park by one week to 4th October following an enthusiastic public response and heavy visitor flows. To accommodate demand, lantern‑lighting hours in the park will run until 12.00am from 24th to 27th September.
This year’s carnival, themed “A Delightful Journey through the Lantern Garden”, showcases lanterns inspired by Hong Kong’s culinary favourites, a corridor of heart‑shaped arches depicting everyday city scenes, and paper‑craft installations presenting rabbits embracing a giant moon. The programme features fire dragon dances, a Mid‑Autumn creative market, traditional handicraft demonstrations and self‑service lantern riddles, creating a festive atmosphere for residents and tourists alike.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board has brought “Shadowlight”, a large‑scale Qinhuai lantern from Nanjing, highlighting the artistry of traditional craftsmanship. In addition, the “International Mid‑Autumn Lantern Gala” at Victoria Park gathers festive lanterns from 20 countries for the first time, drawing substantial crowds and lengthy queues at peak periods.
Given the strong attendance, on‑site crowd management will be implemented as required to ensure public safety and orderly visits, including the possibility of stopping queuing early to regulate entry into display areas.
