29th October 2026 – (Seoul) South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said this afternoon that North Korea fired an unidentified projectile towards the East Sea and that specialists are examining its flight details, including range and altitude, to determine its type. If confirmed as a ballistic missile, it would represent Pyongyang’s first ballistic launch in 17 days, following missiles fired from the Pyongyang area towards the East Sea on 12th October, which state media later described as a “tactical ballistic missile” designed for battlefield targets.

The report comes after North Korea test‑fired two types of submarine‑launched strategic cruise missiles in the East Sea on 14th October, an exercise publicised by the Korean Central News Agency on 15th October. While cruise and ballistic missiles differ in propulsion and flight profile, successive trials underscore Pyongyang’s continued weapons activity across multiple delivery systems.
