29th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) An incident of assault occurred this morning in Yau Ma Tei after a dispute broke out at a rice shop located at 88 Shanghai Street. At approximately 10.56am, a 41-year-old man, surnamed Lai, reportedly became dissatisfied with the portion size of the dishes served and entered into a heated argument with a 48-year-old female member of staff. During the altercation, the man allegedly struck the employee’s eyebrow area with a hard object before leaving the premises. The shop immediately contacted police to report the incident.
Upon arrival, officers conducted a search of the area and located the suspect in an alley adjacent to the restaurant. Following a preliminary investigation, the man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The suspect, who subsequently reported feeling unwell, and the injured employee were both transported to Kwong Wah Hospital for medical assessment. The investigation into the matter is continuing.
