29th August 2026 – (Chongqing) Public debate over celebrity safety and the conduct of fans has been reignited following a recent incident involving Chinese actor and singer Yu Yuhan. The 19-year-old entertainer was filmed in a confrontation with a group of female fans after one of them abruptly opened the door of a moving car in which he was travelling. Video clips widely circulated on social media platforms Weibo and Xiaohongshu show the artist exiting the vehicle and reacting visibly, appearing to swing his arm towards the person responsible, as witnesses filmed the exchange and a voice was heard exclaiming, “Are you crazy?”
The incident quickly went viral, with a single clip on Weibo amassing 1.79 million views. While some online commenters acknowledged that Yu Yuhan’s response appeared intense, the majority defended him, pointing out the dangers of obsessive or intrusive behaviour by fans, often referred to as “sasaeng” conduct. Users observed that Yu is generally regarded as mild-mannered and suggested that such invasive acts may have driven him beyond his limits. Others noted that Yu has faced similar invasions of privacy before, with persistent crowding, close-range filming, and interruptions to his daily life.
In response, Yu Yuhan’s fan club issued an open letter to his management company, TF Entertainment, which represents prominent C-pop acts including TFBOYS and Teens In Times, urging the agency to strengthen arrangements for his personal security and to treat the incident with greater seriousness. The case has prompted renewed calls for the entertainment industry to address the issue of celebrity harassment and to introduce additional safeguards for artists.
