16th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Liza Wang, a stalwart of Hong Kong’s entertainment scene, has revealed she is now seriously planning her retirement. In a recent interview on the new Metro Showbiz FM programme “Conversation with Mr. Yue,” hosted by media veteran Yue Ka-keung, Wang, widely known as “Ah Jeh,” offered candid reflections on this significant life transition.
At 78 years old, Wang emphasised that her decision to step back is not due to fatigue but rather because she has become increasingly aware of her physical limitations. She admitted that while her memory is not as sharp as it once was, her primary concern is when her energy fails to match the ambition or quality she expects of herself. Wang asserted that continuing without being able to deliver her best would be unfair to both herself and her audience. Her attitude towards retirement, as expressed during the programme, was anything but melancholic. Instead, she spoke with the measured confidence of a consummate professional reorganising her priorities thoughtfully. She has no intention of becoming idle and remains determined to ensure that whatever work she undertakes in the future will be purposeful and a strong fit for her abilities at this stage of life.

Law Kar-ying, her husband, is both her companion in daily life and an enduring presence on the Cantonese opera stage. She warmly remembered the recently deceased Patrick Tse, describing him as a mentor—authoritative and compelling, and someone whose on-stage presence brought out her best. Damian Lau, another frequent collaborator, is noted for his intellectual approach and meticulous character study, while Adam Cheng stands out for his refined and classical style of performance, echoing the qualities Wang herself was known for during her earlier years.
