6th April 2021 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong government is currently imposing a “no-fly order” on South Africa, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Ireland where the COVID-19 variant virus is rampant. If passengers from relevant regions want to come to Hong Kong, they need to go to another city for 21 days before boarding the plane to Hong Kong. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, they also need to undergo 21-day quarantine.
However, the Hong Kong government will lift the restriction of the four countries later this month. Passengers concerned need to undergo 21-day quarantine in Hong Kong. Legislative Councillor Elizabeth Quat expressed concern that the lifting of the restriction would nullify all previous efforts in epidemic prevention.
Quat pointed out that the epidemic situation in Hong Kong is still not under control. She is worried that the lifting of the restriction will lead to the introduction of variant viruses into the community. She urges the government to consider whether it is necessary to relax the measure. She also pointed out that the epidemic in India seems to be out of control and believes that the Hong Kong government should implement a restriction on flights from India.
