27th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) An underground fresh‑water main that ruptured on Shau Kei Wan Road this morning, disrupting supply to more than 10,000 households, has undergone emergency repair. The Water Supplies Department said service to customers in Shau Kei Wan and parts of Sai Wan Ho began to resume progressively from 9.30pm following swift remedial work after the pipe was damaged during separate road maintenance by another contractor.

The department cautioned that actual resumption times will vary because the affected network is extensive and complex. Elevation, distance from trunk lines, local pipe conditions and floor level can all influence the return of service. Based on past experience, customers at the ends of the network or on higher ground may need an additional three to four hours before water reaches their taps. Temporary water points will remain in place, backed by water trucks and tanks, and will be closely monitored to ensure adequate supply until normal service is restored.

As flow returns, tap water may initially appear milky or slightly cloudy due to air bubbles introduced during recommissioning. This is expected and should clear quickly. Users are advised to remove the tap strainer, run the water continuously for a few minutes until it runs clear, then refit the strainer.
