30th October 2026 – (Ganjbasoda) A tragic incident in Ganjbasoda, Vidisha district, claimed the life of a 65‑year‑old man on Friday 23rd October 2026 when he was electrocuted after reportedly coming into contact with an 11kV high‑tension wire while spitting gutkha from the balcony of a third‑floor residence at around 1.00pm. Initial accounts from the scene said the man was on the balcony of a rented home in Gayatri Nagar when the fatal contact occurred.
The deceased was identified as Prabhulal Gupta, a mason originally from Chhatarpur who had lived in the rented property for about a decade. He suffered severe burns and died at the scene, according to local reports.
Electrical specialists noted that such accidents can occur under specific conditions: saliva contains moisture and dissolved salts that can conduct electricity, and a continuous stream can create a path to a live conductor; at voltages such as 11kV, an arc can also bridge a short air gap if a person or object is close enough to the line.
The death provoked anger among residents, who alleged that repeated complaints about high‑tension lines passing unacceptably close to homes had been ignored. Landlord Padma Chidhar said she had approached electricity officials several times seeking the relocation of the line but no action followed
