Lan Kwai Fong wakes to Halloween trash trail

1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Halloween’s main Central party strip was still not finished with the night when reporters reached Lan Kwai Fong near 6.00am — finding Wyndham Street carpeted in discarded drink packs, workers tipping water from crowd barriers onto already slick paving, and costumed revellers who had simply refused to go home.

Yesterday’s crush had been severe enough for police crowd controls from the International Finance Centre through to Lan Kwai Fong. Queues into the party zone once stretched to about 180 minutes, yet the wait did nothing to thin the “ghosts” streaming in for the annual all-night run.

By dawn, the mess told its own story on Wyndham Street. Beer cardboard boxes, empty cartons and bottled drinks littered the road; most of the soft-drink packs and bottles had been stamped flat underfoot. Black rubbish bags sat on the pavement and on stair flights, waiting for clearance after the peak hours of costume traffic.

Clear-up crews were already shifting the plastic water-filled barriers used to steer the crowds. As they emptied the tanks on the spot, water spilled across the street and left the ground wet and slippery for anyone still weaving between bins and flattened cans.

Inside the tighter Lan Kwai Fong and D’Aguilar Street core, the floor looked relatively clearer of rubbish than Wyndham — a contrast that suggested the worst overflow had spilt onto the approach roads rather than the bar alley itself. Even so, the party had not fully wound down: groups in costume were still celebrating through the small hours as if midnight had never ended.
