2nd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Former adult-film actress turned DJ Mao Hamasaki posted a long Japanese account at noon today saying her mind is fully clear again and her body is slowly recovering after she was hospitalised when drinks at a Tsim Sha Tsui private party were allegedly spiked.
The Japanese performer was taken ill in the early hours of yesterday at a private suite in the district, later testing positive for four drug types and spending time in intensive care — a story that also ran in Japanese media. She had said last evening she would not discuss the case further, then reversed course with today’s X post from a hospital bed, thanking well-wishers and blaming her own drop in guard.
She wrote that she was in Hong Kong for Halloween DJ work and planned a second set elsewhere. Before that second set she drank about two orange-flavoured cocktail shots. She noticed cloudy sediment at the bottom of the glass but took it for orange pulp and stayed relaxed. Roughly 40 minutes to an hour later she began performing, still feeling tipsy and upbeat, though her eyes felt very dry and her memory of the set grew patchy.
During the set she toasted again with the same orange drink. When she finished it, she said, her body stiffened at once — legs, arms, then her whole frame — and she could not move. From that moment her memory stopped. She next woke in an ambulance and was told she had convulsed. Hospital staff treated her promptly; she said four drug-screen items came back positive and doctors called the episode very dangerous.
Even after she regained awareness in hospital she felt extremely uneasy, in severe pain and distress, without knowing why — only repeating that she was suffering. “This was my first real encounter with drugs,” she wrote, saying she had felt their terror firsthand and now wants to use what she can to spread anti-drug messages so others are not caught the same way.
She urged travellers and night-out guests to open their own sealed drinks, replace any glass left unattended even briefly, or keep drinks with them at all times. Once discharged, she said, local police will take her statement and investigate, and this Japanese post will be her last public word on the incident while she rests and cooperates.
Her manager, Mak’s earlier account to entertainment reporters filled in how they reached the private venue. After a paid DJ set, a big-spending guest pressed them to continue spinning at a private suite. The manager said they normally refuse such rooms, but soft-pedalled after talk of “saving face,” “we’ll watch her” and “making friends.” Games followed; losing meant drinking. The manager first thought the pour was whisky. Hamasaki then collapsed, convulsed, could not move and hallucinated. Tests later flagged ingredients linked to “Happy water,” ecstasy and two other substances before she was moved to intensive care.
