2nd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Jurors in the High Court murder trial over socialite Abby Choi today watched closed-circuit footage of her former father-in-law Kwong Kau buying a second-hand fridge at an appliance shop, later pulling down his mask to smoke as staff wheeled the unit to his van.

The case continues over the alleged murder and dismemberment of Choi. The three defendants are former brother-in-law Anthony Kwong Kong-kit, 35, a driver; former father-in-law Kwong Kau, 69, retired; and former husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi, 32, unemployed. They are charged with murdering Choi in Hong Kong on 21st February 2023 and with preventing the lawful burial of her body between the 21st and 23rd of that month. The judge has told the selected jury that all three deny murder but have each admitted the burial offence.

Police constable Ng Tai-sing continued his evidence as more of the disputed CCTV was played in open court. One sequence showed Kong-kit on 15th February 2023 at a hardware shop selecting and paying for a hammer, cowhide adhesive tape and related items — part of the same mid-February shopping trail the jury has been asked to follow.

A separate clip captured Kau two days later, on 17th February, at a second-hand electrical shop. He walked up to a fridge standing near the entrance, looked it over, opened the door and spoke with a staff member about the machine.

He then drove a white seven-seater to the front of the premises and opened the boot. When he opened the right-hand vehicle door, a large transparent plastic box could be seen inside the cabin. Kau returned to the fridge, opened the freezer compartment again, while the clerk opened the lower door and explained how the appliance worked.

Staff wrapped the fridge in cling film for transport. Kau went back inside the shop to settle payment. After paying, he pulled his face mask down, smoked, and stood watching as workers used a hand trolley to roll the fridge to the seven-seater and load it into the rear.

Police material linked to the case records a fridge recovered from the Lung Mei Village unit associated with the investigation. Today’s shop footage places Kau at the second-hand store four days before the alleged murder date, completing the purchase and lingering outside with a cigarette while the goods — and the large clear box already in the van — were dealt with at the kerb.

The court is still working through what cameras recorded of the defendants’ movements and purchases in mid-February 2023. The murder counts remain contested; the admitted burial offences stand as the jury has already been told.
