4th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) City University of Hong Kong says every student tied to a viral orientation-camp clip of partial undressing has admitted fault, formally apologised and accepted disciplinary penalties, as the Student Discipline Committee wrapped up its inquiry.
The university said organisers of the camp—an affiliated students’ union subject association—acknowledged serious mismanagement, dissolved their executive committee at once and apologised publicly. Individuals involved likewise accepted that their behaviour was improper and said sorry to the university.
CityU did not disclose how many students were disciplined or what sanctions were imposed. Under established rules, it said, further particulars would not be released in order to protect student privacy.
The university repeated a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and said it understood concern from the public and parents. Through the episode, it hoped those involved would grasp that breaking campus rules and causing disturbance to the public and fellow campers carried responsibility and serious disciplinary consequences.
At the same time, CityU pledged more learning and character-building activities to foster social responsibility and self-improvement. It asked society to give the students room to reform so they could learn and grow while still bearing the cost of what happened.
The Student Development Office will run extra workshops on managing student activities for organisers of similar events and has opened a hotline offering counselling and further help. The university said it would keep working for a campus that is safe, respectful and supportive.
The clip, circulated online under a caption about finally seeing an orientation camp that went as far as stripping, showed a woman in a red bra being bridal-carried by a shirtless man. The Management Sciences Subject Association executive committee that ran the camp, known as Hin Koon, later confirmed the scene took place during a Disco Night segment on the evening of 27th August, said it had tried to warn participants but failed to stop the behaviour, apologised and announced its dissolution. Separate photos circulated of bruised thighs and red marks on backs, which CityU said yesterday it could not yet confirm were linked to the same camp.
