28th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) Two men convicted in separate High Court rape trials — a former Hong Chi Association assistant warden jailed for 13 years and an Education University student jailed for seven years and one week over a 2023 orientation-camp spree — have lodged appeals against conviction and sentence at the Court of Appeal.

Chung Pui-kei, now 40, was found guilty after trial of five counts of rape. The charges said that between 13th July and 9th August 2024 he raped a mildly intellectually disabled female resident, identified as X, five times at a hostel in Tai Po where he worked as assistant warden. Mr Justice Douglas Yau Tak-hong, sentencing him, branded the conduct extremely contemptible, disgusting and shocking, said Chung showed no remorse, and imposed 13 years’ imprisonment.

Chung does not accept the verdict. Last week he filed a conviction appeal listed as CACC 383/2026. No hearing date has yet been fixed.

The second appellant, identified only as Y.L.H. and now aged 31, was convicted after trial of three counts of indecent assault, one of rape and one of voyeurism. Prosecutors said that on 13th January 2023 he indecently assaulted woman A at Fei Ngo Shan in Wong Tai Sin; and that between July and August that year, during orientation camps run by the Education University of Hong Kong and the Red Cross, he raped woman B, indecently assaulted women C and D, and watched woman E bathing. He was sentenced to seven years and one week in prison.

Y.L.H. has appealed both his convictions and his sentence under CACC 385/2026. The Education University orientation-camp case, often called the Ocamp prosecution in local coverage, thus joins the Hong Chi hostel matter on the Court of Appeal list.
