17th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) In the midst of soaring living costs in Hong Kong, the search for affordable dining options remains a daily concern for residents. Recently, an online post has fuelled widespread discussion after revealing that a two-dish rice shop in Wan Chai is offering a special late-night deal: chicken leg rice or beef rice for only nine dollars, available from 9.00pm to 2.00am. The revelation quickly caught the public’s imagination, with some speculating that such bargains could one day reshape local eating habits, perhaps even making late-night meals more popular than dinner in the coming decade.
The eatery in question, “Lady Boss Hong Kong” on Hennessy Road, a well-known venue for its “two-dish rice” offerings, rolled out this late-night promotion to enthusiastic response. The eatery’s menu, shared on Threads, drew a flurry of comments ranging from astonishment at the price to speculation over whether the low cost was a marketing ploy, or simply unprofitable. While some diners expressed disbelief at the affordability, others questioned the longevity of the promotion, suggesting prices might rise once enough customers are attracted.
This is not the first time “Lady Boss Hong Kong” has drawn attention for its aggressive pricing, having previously launched several notable promotions including an all-you-can-eat two-dish rice for 39 dollars, a two-dish breakfast for 25 dollars, and an eel fried rice special at just ten dollars during afternoon tea. These deals have proved extremely popular, with queues often forming outside the shop and daily lunchbox sales reportedly reaching as many as 1,300 at peak. Despite being in business for only a year, the restaurant has already established itself as a topic of interest in Hong Kong’s dining scene.
