25th August 2025 – (Beijing) Faye Wong, the iconic Mandopop diva, and mainland Chinese actor Li Yapeng were once regarded as a golden couple. Despite their divorce, they maintained a philanthropic connection through the establishment of the Smile Angel Foundation for their daughter, Leah Dou.
In 2022, Li Yapeng, now 53, married Hai Ha Jinxi, the Chinese winner of the Miss World pageant, who is 19 years his junior. The couple welcomed a daughter that same year. Although Li has stepped away from the entertainment industry in recent years to focus on business, reports of failed investments have continuously surfaced. Most recently, the Smile Angel Hospital, founded by Li and Wong, was embroiled in financial troubles, resulting in court enforcement action.
According to mainland media outlet Dahe Daily, the Smile Angel Hospital in Beijing, co-founded by Li Yapeng and Faye Wong in 2012, has been listed for enforcement by the Chaoyang District People’s Court. The hospital owes a debt of RMB 13.81 million (approximately HKD 15.06 million). Li Yapeng, the legal representative of the hospital, has been directly named in the proceedings.
The hospital, established with registered capital of RMB 10 million (about HKD 10.9 million), initially specialised in paediatrics, child respiratory care, and digestive issues. However, after over a decade in operation, its financial stability has deteriorated.
Reports also reveal that Li Yapeng has faced numerous financial setbacks in his business ventures, including debts of up to RMB 40 million (approximately HKD 43.61 million). He previously resorted to live-streaming agricultural product sales to raise funds. In an interview on the show A Date with Luyu, Li admitted to going six years without income and candidly remarked, “That’s why I got divorced,” when asked about the stress.
