2nd April 2025 – (Hong Kong) The co-founder of Hong Kong-based online platform 9GAG, Ray Chan, has completed its acquisition of the publicly listed company Howkingtech International, intending to rebrand it as MemeStrategy. This move aims to facilitate investments in cryptocurrencies and explore advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
Regulatory filings submitted to the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited reveal that the acquisition entails a maximum cash consideration of HK$140 million, which is contingent upon the exercise of all share options prior to the offer’s completion.
Ray Chan, co-founder of 9GAG, will take the helm at Howkingtech International as part of a strategic initiative to enter the AI, cryptocurrency, and Web3 sectors. Chan remarked, “Now is the optimal time to leverage the transparent operational model of public companies to enhance market awareness and trust in Web3, while creating long-term value for shareholders. We aim to bridge the gap between the new economy and traditional finance, supporting Hong Kong’s development as an international virtual asset hub.”
The rebranding to MemeStrategy will draw on Michael Saylor’s investment philosophy. According to a press release on PR Newswire, MemeStrategy plans to integrate Bitcoin and other high-potential virtual assets into its investment portfolio to ensure long-term value growth.
