The official website conveyed the news, expressing gratitude for the continued support received. It stated, “With deep regret, we announce the passing of Shinji Tanimura on 8th October. Despite his diligent efforts towards recovery, he breathed his last breath. We are profoundly saddened by this loss. A private funeral was held on 15th October, attended only by close family members. It brings us comfort to share that he passed away peacefully, with a serene expression on his face. We would like to inform everyone of this unfortunate news.”

The announcement further mentioned Tanimura’s aspirations for the future, stating, “Last year, we celebrated our 50th anniversary and held a special live show, ‘ALICE GREAT 50 (FIFTY),’ at Ariake Arena. Our goal was to begin anew with Alice members Takao Horiuchi and Toru Yazawa and continue for another 10 years. Although Tanimura had high hopes for the future, his dream remained unfulfilled, and he passed away at the age of 74. At a later date, we plan to organize a gathering where everyone can come together to remember the deceased. He will always be with us.”

Born on 11th December, 1948, in Osaka Prefecture, Shinji Tanimura embarked on his musical journey during his senior year of high school in 1965, forming the amateur folk trio “Rock Candies.” After the disbandment of the group, he made his debut in 1973 as a member of “Alice” with the song “Hashitte Koide Koibiyo yo.” Throughout his career, Tanimura established himself as one of Japan’s leading folk singers, captivating audiences with his heartfelt compositions.
