6th August 2023 – (Chengdu) A severely injured Maine Coon cat was discovered lying on the streets of Chengdu, Sichuan. The cat had multiple fractures and puncture wounds all over its body, raising suspicions of deliberate abuse. Despite veterinary efforts, the cat tragically succumbed to its injuries. This incident unexpectedly exposed the repeated acts of animal cruelty committed by a 17-year-old local teenager, including the skinning alive of a two-month-old kitten. The teenager’s parents, who hold high-ranking positions in the banking sector, faced severe public criticism for enabling their child’s abusive behaviour by repeatedly adopting pets for him.

According to various local media reports, a concerned resident found the severely injured Maine Coon cat within their community on 22nd June. The cat was promptly taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, it couldn’t survive its extensive injuries. The attending veterinarian noted that the cat had multiple fractures and small puncture wounds, indicating intentional abuse before its demise. Subsequently, an informed source revealed witnessing the 17-year-old teenager bringing the same Maine Coon cat to the pet hospital on multiple occasions, suggesting that he was the owner. The teenager’s parents, who hold high-ranking positions in a local bank, were connected to the distressing revelations.
This incident drew the attention of a cat foster parent named Sister Hua. She had previously signed an adoption agreement with the family, entrusting them with a kitten named Chestnut. When Sister Hua requested the return of Chestnut, the teenager’s mother, Mrs. Liu, shockingly claimed that the kitten had died and been cremated. Moreover, she presented a two-month-old kitten with half of its scalp gruesomely skinned, admitting that her son indeed had tendencies to abuse animals and was currently undergoing treatment. Mrs. Liu even stated, “I’m willing to bear all the consequences, even if it means being killed!”
According to reports citing insiders, the two-month-old kitten subjected to abuse had half of its scalp skinned, a broken mandible, burst eyeballs, and a fractured and mangled nasal bridge. Due to the severity of its injuries, the kitten was beyond medical help and had to be euthanized. Following the exposure of the incident, several online sources circulated screenshots of the teenager’s live-streamed animal abuse sessions and conversations with netizens. These conversations included chilling statements such as “Stop scolding me, I dare to do it again next time,” “On average, I kill 1-2 cats or dogs per month for entertainment,” and “That dog was incredibly resilient, it endured torture until 5pm on the fourth day before dying.”
Public opinion not only condemned the cold-heartedness of the underage teenager but also directed criticism towards his parents, who hold high-ranking positions in the banking sector. Netizens left comments on the official microblogs of the banks, namely Bank of Communications and Agricultural Bank of China, accusing the couple of condoning their son’s heinous actions and intentionally adopting pets for him to abuse. In response, Traffic Bank stated that they were aware of the issue and currently investigating the matter.
