17th March 2021 – (Hong Kong) A total of nine customers linked to the URSUS Fitness visited ZUMA restaurant in Landmark Central. Dr.Chuang Shuk-kwan from Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said during the press conference today that all the cases had developed symptoms on 11th March and visited ZUMA between 26th February and 5th March. On 15th March, ZUMA announced on its Facebook and Instagram that Department of Health informed them that 8 customers who visited the restaurant on 26th February, 27th February, 2nd March, 5th March and 9th March tested positive for COVID-19.
CHP reiterated that these cases were linked to URSUS Fitness. Four diners went to ZUMA to eat on 5th March but there was no cluster outbreak in ZUMA restaurant. She said that it was just a coincidence that many cases visited ZUMA at the same time. However, CHP does not rule out that patients without symptoms may have spread the infection to other customers and hence the restaurant was notified.
Shortly closing for only two days for disinfection, ZUMA announced today that it has reopened for business. As of yesterday, CHP confirmed the total visitors to ZUMA to be 9 and not 8 as claimed by the restaurant.
HSBC main building in Central was designated in the compulsory testing list yesterday and HSBC has closed down the building pending completion of the virus testing. COVID-19 cases have spread across offices and apartments in Central and Western District like a wildfire and hence it is not advisable to spend time dining out in restaurants at this critical juncture as it is considered a high-risk activity.
A bartender at Mr.Brown on Ship Street also tested positive today and was regarded as a COVID-19 case of unknown sources. The massive cluster outbreak at Mr.Ming’s Chinese Dining in K11 MUSEA should not repeat itself.
