28th November 2024 – (Zhongshan) The Zhongshan Passenger Port in Guangdong Province officially commenced operations on Thursday, 28th November, marking a major expansion in regional connectivity. The port has initially launched three routes connecting Zhongshan to Hong Kong City, Hong Kong International Airport, and Shekou in Shenzhen. The inaugural ferry, “Zhongshan 20,” departed smoothly from the terminal at 10am, carrying approximately 220 passengers on its maiden journey to Hong Kong City, a trip that takes just 65 minutes.
The opening ceremony for the new port coincided with the relocation of services to the eastern shore of Ma’an Island in the Cuiheng New District. Currently, over 80% of the daily services from the port are dedicated to the Zhongshan-Hong Kong route. Future expansions are anticipated to include routes to Shekou and Taipa in Macau.
As the largest water passenger terminal in the province, the new Zhongshan Passenger Port presents fresh challenges for customs oversight and service delivery. During the construction phase, Zhongshan Port Customs proactively integrated smart technology to enhance facilities, including pre-inspection and negative pressure isolation rooms.
Travellers using the new port can expect a more secure, convenient, and efficient experience with the implementation of a “contactless” customs process.
