31st October 2026 – (Hong Kong) A photo shared on Threads on Friday at about 6.00pm showed three plain‑clothes officers detaining two men on the pavement of Hennessy Road outside Causeway Bay Plaza 1. One suspect, dressed in civilian clothing, was seen kneeling, while another, in what appeared to be an SF Express courier uniform, lay prone; both had their hands cuffed behind their backs as bystanders looked on.

Police said that between September and October they received five reports from shop managers in the Eastern District and Yau Tsim District alleging internal theft and customers leaving without paying, alongside related stealing offences. The affected businesses included convenience stores, supermarkets and restaurants. After investigation and intelligence analysis, officers identified a single suspect believed to be linked to all five cases.

Officers arrested a 50‑year‑old local man in Wan Chai on suspicion of theft and a 43‑year‑old local man on suspicion of handling stolen goods. The five cases involve about HK$53,000. Both men remain in custody for further enquiries, and the case is being handled by the Eastern District Crime Squad, Team 3.

According to initial findings, the five incidents comprise three shop thefts in the Eastern District, one shop theft in the Yau Tsim District and one dine-and-dash at a restaurant in the Eastern District. In the four shop theft cases, the kneeling suspect allegedly secured short‑term employment by posing as a jobseeker and then stole cash after being hired, while the prone suspect is alleged to have dealt with the proceeds. Police enquiries are continuing.
