30th October 2026 – (Los Angeles) Sir Patrick Stewart has died at the age of 86, his spokesperson Kelly Bush Novak confirmed, saying the actor passed away at his Los Angeles home following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Tributes poured in from colleagues and studios for the Yorkshire‑born star, whose career spanned stage and screen across more than six decades.

Stewart achieved global fame as Captain Jean‑Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994, and later as Professor Charles Xavier in the X‑Men film series. Fellow Star Trek luminaries and Marvel collaborators praised his intelligence, grace and humanity, noting how his performances helped define two of popular culture’s most enduring franchises. He was knighted in 2010 for services to drama and continued acting into his eighties.

His final on‑screen appearance is set to arrive posthumously in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on 18th December 2026, in which he reprises Professor X alongside long‑time friend Sir Ian McKellen. Industry announcements and studio statements confirmed his participation as anticipation builds for the film’s winter debut.
