28th August 2020 – (Hong Kong) Since the implementation of the “Hong Kong National Security Law”, many pro-democracy politicians have fled overseas, including the former co-founder of Demosisto, Nathan Law. He said on a social networking site today that he was surprised when he was told by his friends that he has appeared in the online voting section of TIME’s Top 100 People of the Year. In addition to Nathan law, the most influential people in the world selected by the US “Time” for this year’s top 100 include President Xi Jinping, US President Trump, and Jack Ma, chairman of the board of directors of the Ali Baba Group.
Nathan Law is the only Hong Kong citizen and fugitive who has been shortlisted this year. He said on his Facebook that he was quite surprised that he appeared as one of the candidates. He pointed out that this year was extremely volatile for him. After graduating from Yale University with a master’s degree and returning to Hong Kong, the National Security Law came into force, he had to flee the city as he was wanted by the Hong Kong government. Now he has met with dignitaries from various countries and is trying his best to garner more attention in the international community.
