13th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) HKTDC Food Expo 2026 opened today for a five-day run at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, with more than 1,800 exhibitors and crowds already queueing with suitcases and tote bags before the doors opened, then surging in for bargains.
When the fair officially began, people at the front of the line charged into the halls after sought-after deals. The On Kee Dry Seafood stall drew a dense crush as shoppers tried to win a HK$1 flash offer by pedalling hard on see-saw boards.
Many visitors had lined up well before opening, some rolling luggage for bulk buys. Once inside, the rush continued at popular counters. On Kee again ran its one-dollar flash promotion: the first nine participants could pay HK$1 to join a see-saw game, with the winning team promised 2,064 snack abalone pieces and 60 bowls of Buddha’s Delight flying noodles.
Crowds packed the stall front as people stomped the boards for the prize. The spectacle of adults racing a children’s-style game for dried-seafood loot has become a Food Expo set-piece, and this year’s version again mixed cheap entry with a large abalone haul for the winners.
The expo runs from today to 17th August. Organisers say more than 1,800 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions are taking part. Halls are open from 10am to 10pm, with an earlier 6pm close on the final day. Adult tickets cost HK$30 to HK$40, while children aged three or under and people aged 65 or above enter free.
For bargain hunters the combination of early queues, suitcase shopping and stunt promotions such as On Kee’s see-saw challenge sets the tone for the long weekend of sampling and stockpiling. Traders are banking on that opening-day energy carrying through the remaining four days at the Wan Chai venue.
