28th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong stocks started softer on Thursday, with the Hang Seng Index down 155 points, or 0.6 per cent, at 25,410. The China Enterprises Index slipped 64 points, or 0.76 per cent, to 8,425, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 39 points, or 0.85 per cent, to 4,580.
Large-cap technology shares were broadly weaker at the open. Tencent eased 0.8 per cent, Alibaba dropped 2 per cent, Meituan lost 1.2 per cent, Xiaomi was unchanged, JD.com fell 1.1 per cent and Kuaishou edged down 0.4 per cent. Moves among financials were uneven, with HSBC down 0.7 per cent, AIA up 0.1 per cent, Ping An off 0.5 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing flat.
