Halloween throngs spill into New Territories malls

1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Halloween night turned into a citywide costume crawl that ran far past the usual Central and Tsim Sha Tsui hotspots, with netizens posting packed scenes from Tin Shui Wai to Tung Chung and asking how places once called remote could draw such crowds.

Besides Lan Kwai Fong, Mody Road Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui East, Langham Place in Mong Kok and the theme parks, housing-estate malls and neighbourhood plazas filled up as families turned out in homemade looks. Shared clips covered Tin Shui Wai Ginza, the open space outside Tai Po Centre, Tung Chung, YOHO MALL in Yuen Long, and Tseung Kwan O’s PopCorn and The LOHAS — prompting the refrain: “Didn’t think somewhere this far out would be this packed!”

Tseung Kwan O leaned hard into the calendar. PopCorn and The LOHAS ran a joint “Halloween Fun Day & Night” programme from 5th October through 1st November. Posters said The LOHAS was dominated by children whose parents had clearly put work into cute monster outfits. PopCorn staged a Halloween party night with flash dance sets and a DJ booth; viewers called the floor lively and traded “Happy Halloween” wishes across the feed.

Out west, YOHO MALL’s flash dance parade and party drew such a crush that one user laughed there was barely room left for the dancers to perform. Tung Chung and Tin Shui Wai Ginza, often written off by urbanites as too far for a costume night, likewise filled with neighbours in full dress. A Tung Chung resident admitted surprise that “a remote place like Tung Chung” still pulled so many celebrants.

Tai Po supplied the night’s most organic flex. Outside Tai Po Centre, a local-born resident described an open space packed wall to wall and said it was moving to see people gather without a mall-led programme — just neighbours choosing to meet, noisy and happy. The same poster wondered aloud whether any television crew had bothered to cover a turnout that felt worth broadcasting.
