1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) A morning running event ‘Spark Run’ in Sai Kung brings temporary road closures around Pak Tam Chung and Man Yee Road today, with the Transport Department warning that High Island Reservoir East Dam will be reachable only on foot while public transport on the sealed stretch is suspended.
Two road sections are affected. On Tai Mong Tsai Road, the stretch between Pak Tam Chung P.H.A.B. Site and Sai Kung Man Yee Road will close briefly from 6.55am to 7.10am and again from 7.25am to 7.45am, timed around the race flow rather than a day-long blockade.
The longer shut-down falls on Sai Kung Man Yee Road itself: from its junction with Tai Mong Tsai Road south for about 8.3 kilometres, the carriageway will stay closed from 6.00am to 11.00am. That corridor is the usual drive-in approach for hikers and day-trippers heading toward the East Dam viewpoint.
While Man Yee Road is sealed, New Territories green minibus route 9A — Pak Tam Chung to High Island Reservoir East Dam — will not run its first departure from Pak Tam Chung at 9.30am. Service is due to resume only at 11.00am once the road reopens. Taxis will also be barred from entering until the closure lifts.
A Transport Department spokesman said that while public transport is paused, visitors can only walk to the East Dam and should plan early and follow on-site directions. The green minibus operator has prepared to put out extra vehicles after reopening to meet demand and to work with enforcement officers on crowd and traffic control.
