1st May 2025 – (New York) The likelihood of an XRP Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) gaining approval has soared to 85%, driven by the appointment of Paul Atkins as the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), sparking optimism within the crypto market. Following a period of stringent regulations under Gary Gensler’s leadership, Atkins’s new role has raised hopes for a more favourable environment for cryptocurrencies. Positive developments, including breakthroughs in legal battles involving crypto firms and a relaxation of restrictive banking rules, have fuelled anticipation for what lies ahead.
Analysts are particularly optimistic about the potential approval of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, positioning the U.S. to emerge as a dominant force in the global Bitcoin landscape.
ETF analyst Eric Balchunas has reached out to Atkins for insights regarding the timeline for approving the first spot XRP ETF and other alternative coin-based financial products. Balchunas and fellow analyst James Seyffart believe that beyond Ethereum, the approval of additional altcoin-related ETFs appears imminent.
Balchunas expressed confidence in the XRP ETF’s approval chances, estimating an 85% likelihood of regulatory clearance in 2025. He also shared a comprehensive list detailing the approval probabilities for various spot crypto ETFs.
Despite potential delays, Seyffart encourages crypto market participants to remain optimistic, suggesting that final approvals could extend beyond October 2025 or even stretch into the year’s end.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of Paul Atkins in advancing approvals, Balchunas emphasised the importance of Atkins’s confirmation as the new SEC chair in setting the stage for forthcoming decisions.
The approval of ProShares’ XRP futures ETF, while countering false claims of an XRP ETF approval, has generated optimism within the market. Experts speculate that a spot XRP ETF could follow suit, attracting significant capital inflows of over $100 billion into the token.
Industry expert Armando Pantoja highlighted the potential impact of a spot XRP ETF, projecting a surge in demand and a consequent rise in XRP prices. Analysts anticipate a potential XRP price rally of nearly 50%, with projections suggesting XRP could surpass Ethereum in market capitalization metrics.
