30th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) A 30-year-old engineer who used nude photographs to threaten a woman into free sex was jailed for 14 months at the District Court today after pleading guilty and being caught with a condom when he turned up for a meeting arranged under police guidance.

Chung Tsz-tung admitted one count of attempting to procure another person to do an unlawful sexual act by threats, covering an attempt on 8th November 2024 to coerce the 25-year-old complainant, known as X, into an unlawful sexual act by threat or intimidation.

The court heard that Chung and X first connected on 6th November 2024 through the dating app Heymandi. He asked her for compensated dating and for photographs. She sent three images, one of them a nude shot in which she covered her breasts with both hands. Chung then used that picture to demand a free sexual encounter, warning that otherwise he would post it on the LIHKG discussion forum.

Frightened and distressed, X reported the matter to police. Officers told her to arrange a meeting at a basketball court at Clague Garden Estate in Tsuen Wan. When Chung arrived, officers moved in to stop him. He tried to run but was arrested about 500 metres away. Under caution he admitted the offence, saying he had wanted sex, had threatened to put her nude photos online, and knew he was wrong. A condom was found on him.

Mitigating for Chung, counsel said he wished to apologise solemnly to the victim, felt remorse for the harm caused, and was ashamed and mortified by what he had done. His family were hurt and disappointed; his girlfriend was devastated. He knew he had let down everyone around him and promised to use his sentence to reflect. The defence cast the case as a single incident out of character and asked for leniency.

Deputy District Judge Miss Veronica Heung Shuk-han said that although no minor was involved, threatening someone with nude images was a serious offence. Once such pictures are uploaded in today’s borderless online world, she said, traces are hard to erase completely, and the victim’s fear was readily imaginable. That Chung brought a condom to the meeting showed he was bent on going through with it; without police intervention he would have succeeded. Weighing his clean record and guilty plea against the gravity of image-based coercion, she imposed 14 months’ imprisonment.
