19th August 2025 – (Shanghai) Chinese actress Zhao Lusi surprised fans by deleting her Weibo account, which had over 31.22 million followers, on 19th August. The decision follows a series of controversies and challenges, including disputes with her management company and criticism over her charity promotions.

Last year, Zhao was reportedly diagnosed with aphasia, which led to her taking a break from work and triggering contractual issues with her agency. During recent live streams, she shared her frustrations and interacted with fans, but the announcement of her departure from Weibo on 13th August caught many off guard.

Her exit has drawn mixed reactions online. While some fans praised her bravery for leaving a platform with millions of followers, others speculated it was linked to backlash over her promotion of agricultural products. Zhao was accused of using the campaign to advertise for a friend’s business, despite official statements clarifying her role as a legitimate “Agricultural Ambassador.” The persistent rumours appear to have impacted her decision to step away from the platform.

Now focusing her social media presence on Xiaohongshu, Zhao has quickly gained over 20 million followers, becoming the first celebrity on the platform to reach this milestone. This highlights her continued popularity despite the challenges she faces.
