27th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) A customer’s account on social platform Threads has prompted a wave of concern after she said she looked up while preparing to change at the 2nd STREET outlet in Yoho Mall, Yuen Long, and spotted a white dome‑style camera mounted on a black ceiling beam directly above the fitting area’s curtain line. The cubicles are divided by grey curtains and are not fully sealed at the top. Startled, the shopper said she crouched to avoid the lens and photographed the scene, later sharing images that swiftly drew widespread criticism of the set‑up.
Commenters argued that, regardless of whether the device could capture the inside of the cubicle, cameras should not be positioned where they might view a changing space. Some feared other customers may already have been recorded without realising, and urged the poster to report the matter to Police or take it to the media, while advising fellow shoppers to stay alert when trying on clothes at the store.
Privacy specialists pointed to guidance from Hong Kong’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, which says organisations must respect reasonable expectations of privacy and should not install surveillance in areas such as changing rooms, fitting rooms or toilets. The guidance notes that such deployments could contravene the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
