12th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) After being declared bankrupt in April 2020, Margaret Chiu, daughter of the late businessman Deacon Chiu, had her company and a house in Clear Water Bay taken over by a trustee. However, the trustee recently filed a case in the High Court, alleging that Chiu continued to occupy the large garden of the house and kept more than ten dogs after her departure.
After hearing the case, a High Court judge issued a temporary injunction order on 12th May, prohibiting Chiu from living in the garden and requiring her to take away the dogs, clear the garden, and return it to the plaintiff. The plaintiff, Marspan Limited, sued Chiu, her ex-husband Tan Wai Kee, and anyone occupying the land in question. The judge ruled that Chiu and her staff had no right to occupy the garden and allowed Chiu and her ex-husband to enter the garden only from 9am to 5pm each day. Additionally, the judge ordered Chiu and Tan Wai Kee to pay the litigation costs.
Deacon Chiu, who passed away in 2015, was a prominent Hong Kong entrepreneur and founder of Far East Bank and Far East Consortium.
