1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Police are investigating a suspected drink‑spiking incident after a man called at 4.54am to report that his female colleague had become unwell shortly after consuming a beverage inside an entertainment venue at Auto Plaza, 65 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Paramedics attended and transported the woman to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination, with the full circumstances still under inquiry.
Local reports identified the woman as Mao Hamasaki, a former adult film actress now residing in Hong Kong. A post on her Facebook account stated she had been “drugged while working” and included two photographs. Subsequent reports indicated hospital testing showed positive reactions to four types of drugs, and she is currently being treated in the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Mao Hamasaki’s manager, Mak, recounted the incident, saying that after she was taken to hospital, tests showed positive results for four drugs. “She now has to be admitted to the ICU,” he said.
He said he was accompanying Hamasaki at the hospital for tests and added, “We just did a urine test and there was a drug reaction.” Describing the lead‑up, he explained that after she finished a DJ set at a Wan Chai restaurant, someone at the venue said a big‑spending guest wanted DJ Mao to continue playing at a private spot in Tsim Sha Tsui; the manager declined, saying they never accept private gigs. The person complained it was disrespectful, insisted he only wanted to make friends, urged her to play another set and assured them, “Everyone will be watching her, there’ll be no problem, no one will touch her.” The manager recalled agreeing—“Since you say that, I’ll trust you”—and, once there, partygoers played games in which Mao lost a forfeit drink. She thought it was whisky and asked him to taste it to check; he tried it, found it sweet and assumed it was a cocktail, and believes “that was the drink.” He later suspected it might have been something like “happy water” and said he felt very guilty for not spotting it and not drinking in her place.
