28th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) A young man who invited a former workmate camping in Sai Kung is on trial for allegedly creeping into her tent twice in one night and raping her — then, when she confronted him, saying he never thought it would turn out that way and muttering “sorry” — as he denies two counts of rape at the High Court.

Fung Cheuk-hei, 24, pleaded not guilty to twice raping woman X on or about 10th November 2023 at Wan Tsai South Campsite on the Wan Tsai Nature Education Trail in Sai Kung. X, now 25, began her evidence today.

Fung and X were colleagues in 2019 and swapped Instagram contacts, then lost touch after she left the job. In August 2023 they bumped into each other on an estate and became friends again. X said Fung told her he had just been dumped and was miserable. Through September and October they went out several times — cycling on Cheung Chau, a birthday dinner, and Halloween in Lan Kwai Fong with other friends — but she had made clear she did not fancy him and saw him only as a friend.

After the Cheung Chau ride, she said, he tried to kiss her on a bench; she refused. He kept asking why; she answered there was no reason beyond not liking him. At her birthday meal he wrote “Happy Birthday BB” on a plate and gave her a small CK handbag. On Halloween he tried to hold her hand; when she pulled away he told her to grip a prop fake hand he had brought instead.

In November, they camped in Sai Kung. On arrival, X said, Fung suggested a friend had recommended a more secluded, comfortable and quiet spot and kept inviting her until she agreed. At first all seemed normal: he cooked, they ate and drank — she had half a bottle of soju mixed with Yakult, he about one and a half bottles of soju.

About 1am, she felt tired, went into her tent and lay down. Fung suddenly rushed in, lay on her and kissed her. She told him to go away. She described him as rough, putting a hand inside her underwear as she struggled and said she did not want it and he should stop. He still pulled off her pants and told her to put a condom on him; when she refused he did it himself.

During forced intercourse, she cried out in pain; after a few thrusts he went soft, blamed the condom, and pressed her for oral sex. Believing she was safer once he had softened, she covered herself to sleep. He left, then returned and raped her again without a condom. She said she was in pain and terrified, with no way out deep in the night; after dozens of thrusts he stopped, said “all right”, and they slept back to back until morning.

On waking, she wiped herself and found heavy bleeding. She showed him a bloodstained wet wipe; he said he truly did not know it would end like that — “sorry” — and on the beach later claimed he meant no harm and told her not to be angry. She felt he still did not grasp that he had done wrong. After going home, she messaged that his conduct amounted to rape; he replied he had not thought it would go that far, said he had misunderstood her, and apologised. Confused and at a loss, she did not call police at once. She later told her brother Y; the three met to talk, and she finally reported the matter.
