27th October 2026 – (Hong Kong) At about 10.00am today, a water pipe beneath a Highways Department roadside works site outside 318 Shau Kei Wan Road on the westbound carriageway ruptured, unleashing a powerful jet of yellow, sediment‑laden water that shot up the facade of a neighbouring building and reached the first floor. The force of the spray shattered a window at an upstairs care home, with fragments cutting a female elderly resident on the leg before staff and responders provided assistance.
Images and video shared online showed torrents of water bubbling up through the carriageway like a spring, quickly inundating two traffic lanes and the adjacent pavement. Police and emergency crews were called as flooding impeded vehicles and pedestrians, causing congestion and temporary obstruction in the area while the flow was brought under control and debris cleared. Initial indications point to an underground rupture linked to the works site.
