9th July 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Customs has confiscated around 5,400 suspected counterfeit mobile phones and electronic devices worth an estimated HK$6 million following an online sales investigation, with three people arrested.

The operation, conducted on 7th July, stemmed from a complaint lodged by a trademark owner alleging that a trading company had been offering fake branded mobile phones for sale via the internet. Customs officers launched an inquiry and, with assistance from the brand owner, carried out a raid on an office unit in Hung Hom. The enforcement action led to the seizure of the suspected counterfeit items and the arrest of two foreign men and one foreign woman, aged between 35 and 46, under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.

Investigations are continuing. The three suspects have been released on bail pending further enquiries, and officers said additional arrests have not been ruled out.

Customs urged consumers to shop only at reputable physical or online stores and to avoid dealing with suspicious sellers. Members of the public are advised to verify product authenticity with trademark holders or authorised agents if in doubt.

The department said it will continue to safeguard consumer rights through regular inspections of retail outlets and online platforms. Officers also employ a big data analytics system to conduct risk assessments and monitor compliance with the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, particularly in online transactions.
