13th January 2026 – (Hong Kong) Nestlé Hong Kong’s voluntary recall of 22 batches of NAN and Wyeth infant formula, prompted by concerns that raw ingredients may have been contaminated with Bacillus cereus, has led to 27 reports of suspected infant discomfort, the Department of Health said on Monday.
As of 5pm on 13 January, authorities had received notifications and referrals regarding the cases, but stressed that all reported symptoms were very mild and inconsistent with acute poisoning caused by the vomiting toxin associated with Bacillus cereus. No food poisoning cases linked to the recalled formula have been recorded to date.
A department spokesperson said most infants experienced only one or two episodes of vomiting or loose stools, which did not persist and were not accompanied by other symptoms. In a small number of cases with prolonged symptoms, the timing did not align with consumption of the implicated products. Following investigation, officials found no evidence of illness attributable to Bacillus cereus toxins and suggested some incidents were consistent with common post-feeding regurgitation in babies.
Separately, the department has handled 109 enquiries related to the affected formulas, largely concerning how to switch products. Healthcare staff have provided appropriate advice and assessments.
